Reading Resource: Links to Literacy

I recently found this great reading resource for parents on Twitter.

Dawn Little is the founder of Links to Literacy.  She holds a Masters Degree in Education with an emphasis on curriculum and instruction, and literacy. You can read more about her and her impressive credentials here.

Dawn has a whole section on her site for parents who are interested in helping their child become great readers. Included are some information sheets, blog posts, videos and links to other online resources.

Of particular interest here at Book Dads was Dawn’s PDF called: Fathers and Sons – Reading Together. This is a terrific information sheet to help dads inspire their children to become readers.

Here are a few tips I really liked:

* Read with your son as often as possible

* Encourage a subscription to a magazine you can read together

* Make literacy activities interactive: play games – spell words when playing basketball – horse style

Dawn also authors a blog specifically for parents called Literacy Toolbox, full of tips and tools to help parents enhance the literacy lives of their children.
