Welcome to the Book Dads Holiday Gift Guide! Below are 10 books we've reviewed this year on Book Dads which I think would make excellent gifts to dads in your life. Whether they are a SAHD, a father of triplets, a geek or all of the above, there's something here for that special dad you know. Click on the books and the links to learn more about the book and maybe even purchase one from the Book Dads Powell's Store.
* Sugar Milk by Ron Mattocks - Ron combines, honesty, insight, and wit as he recounts his journey from the comfortable corporate world to a new world full of financial stress, lonely afternoons, and subversive Care Bears as he gains a new perspective on fatherhood. You will find yourself laughing on the floor at points in this book, as well as not wanting to put the book down until the very end. (Dad of Divas, Book Dads)
* Tales From The Trips by John Cave Osborne - The tale of the Osborne family’s journey from first hearing Caroline’s news about the pregnancy to the birth of the trips (and ensuing chaos which comes with adding three babies to your life and home), all the way up to the trips learning how to walk. Throughout the book, John’s writing and storytelling displays a powerful sense of honesty and sincerity. Through this approach, which I found not only endearing, but also refreshing to see from a dad, John expresses his fears, his sense of humor and an obvious deep-felt love for his family, children and fatherhood. (Chris Singer, Book Dads)
* The Faith of a Child by Stefan Lanfer - I want you to know that there is not one bit of hyperbole present when I tell you how incredible a read this was. This is quite simply a work of literature and a work of art. It’s been a long time since I read something that resonated so deeply inside of me that it could draw out the emotions I feel as a first-time father. (Chris Singer, Book Dads)
* Geek Dad by Ken Denmead - As a Geek Dad myself, I hope to share with my own girls some of these projects. While I have not done some of the things in the book, I was amazed at how simple some of the ideas were and how fun they looked to be. I particularly enjoyed the idea of making a superhero ABC book. I had never thought about this, but as my eldest gets a bit older and she is enjoying drawing, I think this would be a great way to allow her to be creative to make up her own creations. (Dad of Divas, Book Dads)
* Heroes For My Son by Brad Meltzer - One of the things I liked most about the book was that the author was sharing great men and women with his son and did not only focus on strong male role models. As a father of girls, I was impressed by this, and I read a few of the chapters to my girls and they enjoyed them! (Dad of Divas, Book Dads)
* Goodbye, Pert Breasts: Diary of a Newborn Dad by Ben Wakeling - A fantastic combination of useful and enlightening information on the 40 weeks of pregnancy told through the hilarious uncouth voice of an interested partner. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is expecting a baby, and wish that I had read a book this great when we were expecting as it is just the right combination of comedy, caring, and curiosity. (James Rohl, Book Dads)
* 30 Things Future Dads Should Know About Pregnancy by Hogan Hilling - There are hundreds of books about pregnancy written for and to expectant mothers, but so few that really give more than a little bit of lip-service to the questions, concerns, and needs of dads-to-be. Hogan Hilling is really filling a need here, and I would highly recommend this to any dad out there with a baby on the way. I think every expectant dad would gain from having another dad to mentor them, but this sort of book might be the next best thing. (Chris Routly, Book Dads)
* Father Fiction by Donald Miller - Donald Miller tells the story of being raised by his mother and looking for father figures after his father left him and his sister. Miller has a unique way of telling hard truths in a soft unassuming way. He is most moving and most successful I think in dealing with that father wound in the lives of the boys that never learned how to be men from their absent fathers. (James Rohl, Book Dads)
* Daddy Teller by K. Sean Buvala - As a children’s counselor, I’ve seen first-hand a growing need for more active father-son and father-daughter relationships. What better way to connect with your child than through the fun and engaging act of storytelling? Daddy Teller is a gateway to a deeper relationship with your child. It is an invaluable book of knowledge, tips and tricks that is sure to bring out your inner hero. (Mike Dyson, Book Dads)
* Addition by Adoption: Kids, Causes and 140 Characters by Kevin Hendricks - A work-at-home dad turns to Twitter to share updates about a pending adoption. There’s so much more. Love, family, charity, compassion, humanity and more. You don’t need to understand Twitter to enjoy this book. Forget about the format & just read the content. You won’t want to put it down. (Chris Singer, Book Dads)
